The Volvo Ocean Race is the Mount Everest of ocean races. It goes to places that no other races go, experiencing conditions beyond the imagination of all but the most experienced sailors. But how do you go about bringing this nine-month race to life for a global audience with so many different requirements?

Trunk Media worked in collaboration with twentysix London to develop the Volvo Ocean Race website.

Requirements

For core enthusiasts, this means technical data, Virtual Spectator and six-hourly position updates; for the broader audience it's about being able to engage with the experience–revealing the personalities involved and what life is like on board a racing yacht.

Results

Launch day: "On Sunday the site took an incredible 14.1 million hits, with 235,000 user sessions and 75,000 unique visitors which is way beyond our expectations–and the CPU usage I hear you cry�barely flickered above 8% which is truly world class!".
